My Story!

Hi, my name is Carina Coyne and I'm married to Marcus together we have 2 daughters Molly and Sinéad and we are Sheep Farmers, living in Finny, Co.Galway along the beautiful Lough na Fooey.

I've been knitting since I can remember, I grew up watching my mom sewing and knitting, she always encouraged me to try new things.

it wasn't until I knitted a blanket for my daughter molly that I found a huge difference between acrylic and wool,

I purchased enough wool to make another blanket and loved knitting it so much but it was very expensive to buy the wool, so I asked my husband to leave aside a few fleeces when he was shearing, and I searched the internet for a spinning wheel, and I found the perfect one, with all the extras in the UK.

I asked my brother Philip to get it for me because he worked in England, and he did. It ended up being my birthday present, (best present ever)

I couldn't wait to get at it, I spent ages learning, and with the help of a lady from Florida she had me up and running

I'll never forget that afternoon, I was so so happy. and I haven't stopped spinning since. I spin our own wool, and I spin our neighbours wool also.

All the wool I spin is from sheep here in Joyce Country, I also dye my wool using only natural dye like Lichens, berries, plants, vegetables, and anything that grows in abundance in here.

I sort the wool out first, then it's washed and dried, all our water comes straight from the mountain into the workshop. Any soiled wool is put into the compost heap, carded and spun and washed again in the workshop.

I Only use what Joyce Country offers. The farmers have been very good to me and very supportive, with the little value on the wool, I would love to see more people using the wool.
